Call for Applications for the Position of Professor of Applied Linguistics and/or English Education

The Program in Contemporary International English in the Faculty of Letters, Aichi University, Toyohashi, Japan, invites applications for the position of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor of Applied Linguistics and/or English Education as outlined below.

1. Status

Assistant, Associate or Full Professor (Tenured)
* The retirement age of Aichi University is 70 years old.

2. Qualifications

(a) Ph.D. or equivalent in the field of Applied Linguistics (major) or a comparable field minor preferred. ESL/EFL training/experience desirable.
(b) Level of English proficiency sufficient to teach all classes and seminars in English. Japanese ability sufficient to accomplish all administrative duties effectively.
(c) Teaching and Research Experiences on higher education levels are required. Experience of living and working in a variety of cultures is desirable.
(d) Residence within a commuting area (80km or less from the Toyohashi campus of Aichi University) is required for the successful applicant after accepting the position.

3. Duties

(a) Teach the following courses in English
  (i) Some courses in the Contemporary International English (CIE) Program such as Academic Writing, Introduction to CIE, and Basic Seminar in CIE
  (ii) Advanced Seminar courses in applied linguistics and/or sociolinguistics (including thesis supervision) for juniors and seniors
  (iii) General Education courses such as Communicative English
(b) Class load: five 90-minute classes per week (minimum). Extra payment will be provided for additional classes.
(c) Attendance at faculty meetings is required.
(d) Participation in campus-wide duties such as committee meetings and entrance exam preparation.
(e) Coordination of specialty and general education courses taught by part-time and contract native speakers of English.
(f) Starting date of appointment is April 1, 2018.

4. Salary and Benefits

(a) Based on university rules, according to working experience, age, etc.
(b) Health insurance is compulsory through a shared contribution.
(c) Individual Research Subsidy of 500,000 yen annually.
(d) One-way economy class ticket from home country to Japan will be paid.
(e) Moving expenses will be reimbursed up to a maximum of 300,000 yen.
(f) Retirement allowance will be paid.

Please note that while the University can assist in securing housing, accommodation is not provided.

5. Application

(b) Curriculum vitae with a recent passport-sized photograph.

(e) Syllabi for two classes (Academic Writing and Advanced Seminar for junior students)
(f) A list of three persons who have agreed to act as referees, at least two of whom must be able to address your academic and work experience (title, phone number, email address, relationship)
(g) Copies of BA, MA, and/or Ph.D. diplomas or degree certificates
