The world-class International Center for Chinese Studies. Research Centers ・Institute of International Affairs ・Managerial Research Institute ・ Comprehensive Chinese-Japanese Dictionary Editing Center ・International Center for Chinese Studies ・Community Research Institute ・ Research Institute of Industry in Chubu District ・Toa Dobunshoin University Memorial Center ・ San-En-Nanshin Center for Regional Cooperation The ICCS was established as a global research and educational institution in contemporary Chinese studies.The Center is affiliated with major universities and research institutions located in 7 countries and regions (China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Korea, the United States, Singapore, England). Together with these institutions, the ICCS is working to build a collaborative global network using the Remote Multilateral Communication System (RMCS). The network includes the bases on the Nagoya campus and at Nankai University (Tianjin) and Renmin University of China (Beijing). The dual-degree program of the International Center for Chinese Studies at the Graduate School is implemented as part of the Center’s young researcher training project.Culminating many years of educational and research excellence, the International Center for Chinese Studies is highly regarded and was selected by the Ministry of Education Culture, Sports, Science and Technology for inclusion in its 21st Century COE Program(2002～2007). Educational characteristics RMCS and study abroad programs foster a global perspective. The Center is committed to training young researchers through programs such as research at its Chinese research and education bases (two universities) and study abroad at other universities, remote lectures conducted using RMCS, dual thesis guidance, and employment of participating students as research assistants and COE researchers. RMCS Remote Multilateral Communication System RMCS is a communication system that allows real-time interaction among people in multiple geographical locations. The system makes it possible for students in Japan to exchange opinions with professors at overseas partner universities and receive thesis guidance. Research characteristics Explore contemporary China by way of five research fields. Overseas researchers participate in academic societies, each of which is devoted to one of five fields such as “Building Chinese Studies and Contemporary Chinese Studies” and “Contemporary Chinese Economics and the Formation of an Asian Economic Area.” An international symposium held each year provides unified treatment of all fields.   TAKAHASHI  Goro Professor, Faculty of Modern Chinese Studies COE Program Base Leader
