Department of English Studies

Fostering human resources who can play a leading role in the international community with enhanced practical proficiency in English as an international lingua franca

In the Department of English Studies, students develop their reading, listening, writing, and speaking ability in English as an international common language step by step, and acquire comprehensive English proficiency. In addition, the faculty also allows students to use English to deepen their understanding of the cultures, societies, and values of English-speaking people, with the aim of enabling them to acquire communication skills that help them communicate equally with people from around the world in the international community. Alumni from this faculty actively work at companies’ overseas operation departments, airline companies, travel agencies, hotels, and governmental bodies, or as teachers at elementary, and junior and senior high schools, with some alumni advancing to graduate schools inside and outside Japan.

Curriculum Features

Encouraging students to actively participate in study abroad programs

Intensive learning in the Approved One-semester Study Abroad Program
In this program, students use an entire semester, spring or fall, for intensive learning of English or other languages. Since this program allows students to study abroad for a longer period than the short-term overseas language seminar, it is ideal for students who wish to increase their communication skills in English. In this program, students study in Canada, the U.S., or the UK, and can not only learn English from native speakers but also learn diverse cultures and values through interaction with other international students from around the world. Because credits earned abroad can be transferred to credits necessary for graduation from Aichi University, students can graduate in four years.
